Get Swoop Alerts on Your Phone or Computer

How group admins turn on Swoop alerts for payments, new members, hire requests, refunds, volunteers and tasks — on a computer, an Android phone, or an iPhone or iPad.

Get Swoop Alerts on Your Phone or Computer

If you look after a group in Swoop, you can get a short alert on your phone or computer when something needs you. You don't need to download an app.

You'll get an alert when:

  • a payment comes in
  • someone joins your group
  • someone asks to hire a space
  • a refund is waiting to be sent
  • a volunteer can't make their shift
  • you're given a task

You also get one short summary each morning when there's been something new.

Alerts are quiet from 8pm to 8am. You'll still get all your emails as normal.

On a computer

This works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and in Safari on a Mac.

  1. Sign in to Swoop.
  2. Go to Settings, then Notifications.
  3. In Alerts on this device, tap Turn on alerts.
  4. Your browser asks if Swoop can show notifications. Choose Allow.
  5. A test alert pops up so you know it's working.

---

On an Android phone

  1. Open Swoop in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings, then Notifications.
  3. Tap Turn on alerts, then Allow.
  4. A test alert pops up so you know it's working.

---

On an iPhone or iPad

An iPhone or iPad only shows alerts from Swoop once it's on your Home Screen. It takes a couple of minutes, and you only do it once.

  1. Open Swoop in Safari and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button. It's the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen (or the top on an iPad).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
  4. Find the new Swoop icon on your Home Screen and open it.
  5. Sign in again with your email and password. The emailed sign-in link opens in Safari, not in the Swoop icon, so use your password here. If you've forgotten it, reset it in Safari first.
  6. Go to Settings, then Notifications, and tap Turn on alerts.
  7. Tap Allow. A test alert pops up so you know it's working.

From now on, open Swoop from the Home Screen icon. Your iPhone or iPad needs to be on iOS 16.4 or later.

Turning alerts off

Go to Settings, then Notifications, and tap Turn off on this device. This only turns off alerts on that device. Your other devices and your emails don't change.

To stop one kind of alert, such as payments, change that kind to Off in your notification settings. It then stops both the alert and the email.

---

If you look after more than one group

Alerts are switched on one group at a time. Turn them on from inside each group you want alerts from.

Common questions

Do alerts replace the emails?
No. You still get your emails. An alert is a short note that pops up on your screen so you see things sooner.
Will alerts wake me up at night?
No. Alerts are quiet from 8pm to 8am in your group's time zone. Anything that comes in overnight waits until the morning.
How many alerts will I get?
No more than 5 a day from each group, plus one short summary in the morning. Payments, new members and hire requests are limited to 2 a day each, so the important ones still get through.
What does an alert show?
Your group's name and one short line, such as \"A payment came in\". It never shows names or amounts. Tap it to see the details in Swoop.
I tapped Block by mistake. How do I fix it?
Swoop can't ask again once a browser is blocked. Open your browser's settings for swoopcommunity.com.au, change Notifications to Allow, then come back and turn alerts on.
